This book of photographs and texts is the most complete work yet produced on fair trade. In it are presented fourteen different fair trade products (coffee, tea, cacao, sugar, rice, cotton, shea butter, bananas, spices, quinoa, guarana, wine, soccer balls and handicrafts) from seventeen countries in the South (Bangladesh, Pakistan, Bolivia, Ethiopia, Mexico, Tanzania, Costa Rica, Mali, Thailand, India, Sri Lanka, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Burkina Faso, Chile, Argentina and Brazil). Its primary objective is to give greater credit to the role and work of grassroots producers in these markets; it also aims to raise awareness of fair trade issues in the South, as well as in the North. Each chapter includes a story from the field, a meeting with producers, a short text on the product in question and a thematic insert on a fair trade issue. You will also find information on:

› The lives and daily activities of families involved in fair trade.
› Each product's processing chain, from seed to consumption.
› The social benefits of fair trade: development projects, democracy, self-sufficiency, sustainable agriculture, etc.
› Fair trade issues in both the North and the South: certification, organic agriculture, the role of consumers, the certification of plantations, the role of women, child labour, the increasing variety of products, etc.

Maps, graphs, illustrations and other design elements make your reading more enjoyable and help you understand the various themes (processing cacao into chocolate, for example). See complete product information (French)
